The Best in Boys Education

As you and your child explore various educational opportunities for high school, it is our goal to equip you with the knowledge you need to find a school where your son will thrive. From deciding whether private school is the right fit for your family to visiting our beautiful Virginia campus and completing the necessary application requirements, our admission team is here to assist you in any way. We look forward to getting to know your family better as we work with you to see if Woodberry might be a great fit for your son.

A Woodberry education will change the course of your life. This starts with your time on campus, as you learn from some of the best teachers in the country and develop independence and self-confidence. It continues in college; our graduates report each year that what they learned at Woodberry prepared them to thrive. They also tell us each year, no matter their age, their time at one of the best prep schools for boys was even more important for the eventual path of their life than their college years.

Why does Woodberry matter so much? Because our education is rooted in a culture of intellectual thoroughness and moral integrity. What you study in the classroom is important, but along with those lessons you are learning to develop the skills to tackle whatever challenges you will face.

Finally, a Woodberry education provides you with connections that will last the rest of your life. Upon graduation, you’ll join one of the strongest, most active, and most engaged alumni networks in the world. And, because a Woodberry education is an uncommon experience held in common, you’ll find that you share traditions and memories with alumni from across generations and around the world.

Part of what makes Woodberry great is a commitment and dedication to every boy. Every shared experience, in academics, arts, athletics, and residential life, is designed to build the school's culture.

At Woodberry, we know boys learn and develop in different ways. Our classes are designed to be hands-on whenever possible. We believe boys learn best in groups and in situations where they’re asked to solve real-world problems, not spit out a list of memorized facts. This is a place where you can relax and be yourself as you learn and live with other motivated boys like you.

Here you can shape your education. You can pick classes that excite you, try new clubs, explore new sports. On dorm you’ll meet other boys who will become your friends for life. You’ll have time to explore the 1,200 acre campus, to develop independence and self-reliance. This isn’t just the next step in your education; it’s an experience that will change your life.

A Woodberry education is full of individual attention. The teachers who live and work here are devoted to making sure each student is known, challenged, and loved. They work alongside you to help you grow and develop your passions. You’ll come to view many of them as mentors and friends, because they want you to become the best possible version of yourself. Research shows boys learn best when they have the chance to forge close ties with the men and women who teach them.

Make your own decisions and discover new interests. Woodberry is built to help you grow. All aspects of the Woodberry experience are structured and set into a deliberate rhythm of life that minimizes the distractions of the world. Here you'll develop confidence, resilience, and independence in a community built on trust and respect for each other.
